The ‘Transformers’ franchise is expending its universe with a spin-off focusing on fan-favorite BUMBLEBEE. The film will be directed by TRAVIS KNIGHT (Kubo And The Two Strings) and starring HAILEE STEINFELD (Pitch Perfect 2) and WWE superstar JOHN CENA (The Wall).

The spin-off will take place in the year 1987 as “Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

The film is produced by ‘Transformers’ franchise head honcho LORENZO DI BONAVENTURA and MICHAEL BAY, along with executive producers STEVEN SPIELBERG, BRIAN GOLDNER, MARK VAHRADIAN, and CHRIS BRIGHAM (Inception). The screenplay is written by CHRISTINA HODSON (Unforgettable).

‘Bumblebee’ is set for release on December 21st, 2018.
