Okay, now THIS just got me more excited for the project! The pair worked great together and showed a lot of promise with ‘In The Blood’, lets hope they can build on that and deliver with ‘Kickboxer’.

UPDATE: More bad news for KICKBOXER. According to TONY JAA’s manager MIKE SHELBY (via Film Combat Syndicate), he have dropped out of the project stating “the production changed schedule to a period where Jaa would not be available.” This is another HUGE blow for the film considering fan favorite SCOTT ADKINS previously exited the film as well. Lets just hope they will find a worthy replacement for Jaa. This is unfortunate considering he was so excited for the project during our exclusive interview a couple of weeks ago HERE. Never the less, fans of Jaa can still look forward to next year’s FURIOUS 7, SKIN TRADE, and SPL 2.

UPDATE: BREAKING NEWS, ‘Boyka’ will NOT be appearing in the KICKBOXER remake after all. Reported via City On Fire:

During a Q&A session at the recent Seni Event, SCOTT ADKINS confirmed that he won’t be in the Kickboxer remake. He was offered the role of the brother, but explained that after reading the script and realizing just how much of a small role it was, with very little action involved, he didn’t feel like it was a role which would suit either him or his fanbase, so decided to turn it down.

This is definitely disappointing to hear. Everyone was so excited to finally see Adkins work with TONY JAA. But considering the small role that he was offered, he made a good call in turning down the project. Who knows, maybe Adkins can invite Jaa to work with him on the next installment of UNDISPUTED. I got my fingers crossed.

UPDATE: Via Film Combat Syndicate, reports are saying SCOTT ADKINS, TONY JAA, and DAVE BATISTA have NOT officially signed on to the project…YET. Negotiations are still on-going. Lets cross our fingers that all three will finalize their contracts soon.

Martial arts star SCOTT ADKINS (Undisputed, Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning) have been confirmed to join the cast of director STEPHEN FUNG’S KICKBOXER remake!

Yes. That’s right. ‘Boyka’ will be entering the kickboxing ring! Coming along for the ride is none other than Thai superstar TONY JAA (Ong Bak, SPL 2)!

Filling in for Jean-Claude Van Damme in this remake is stuntman ALAIN MOUSSI as ‘Kurt Sloan’, UFC star GEORGE ST. PIERRE playing his brother with DAVE BAUTISTA as villain ‘Tong Po’.

OFFICIAL Announcement by BRIAN O’SHEA:

Aug 5, 2014 – Brian O’Shea, CEO of The Exchange, has announced and confirmed that in addition to having Dave Batista, star of GUARDIANS OF THE GLAXY, former UFC welterweight champion George St. Pierre, and Alain Moussi of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, the 3D reboot of KICKBOXER will boast two additional action stars: Scott Adkins (THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, ZERO DARK THIRTY) and martial arts legend Tony Jaa (ONG BAK trilogy, FAST & FURIOUS 7).

The high-octane KICKBOXER remake is directed by Stephen Fung (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO). It stars Alain Moussi (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST),

With the addition of Adkins and Jaa, KICKBOXER features a variety of over 20 martial arts disciplines. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY star Batista has long wrestled professionally for WWE but has formal backgrounds in Kali, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Moussi is a practitioner of Karate, Kickboxing, Aikido, Goshindo, Kobudo, Filipino martial arts, Sambo, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu. St. Pierre practices Kyokushin Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Wrestling along with a vast array of talents stemming from a Mixed Martial Arts background.

Adkins has a lengthy resume in the action genre with roles in THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, THE EXPENDALES 2, and a slate of other action-centric films. Adkins has also worked alongside the original KICKBOXER, Jean-Claude Van Damme, battling the legend on screen in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING. Adkins has backgrounds in Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and Judo.

Jaa is a veteran of the martial arts genre. His groundbreaking, blitzkrieg-paced ONG BAK films are cult classics. He also starred in THE PROTECTOR. Jaa is trained in Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Muay Boran, Aikido, Judo and Wushu.

KICKBOXER follows Kurt Sloan (Moussi), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista).

The film is produced by Ted Field of Radar Films (RIDDICK, THE LAST SAMURAI), Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. Mike Weber and Peter Meyer will executive produce.

“Kickboxer will display a style of acrobatic, rapid-fire martial arts action that Scott Adkins is increasingly becoming synonymous with,” said O’Shea, “Along with Tony Jaa, KICKBOXER has compiled a talented cast to push the boundaries of the martial arts form.”

Fight choreography will be handled by LARNELL STOVALL, who worked with Adkins on UNDISPUTED 3 and UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING.

With a cast and crew of this magnitude, martial arts action cinema fans is in for one hell of a treat!
